A Haslington man who carried medical kits in his car all the way to Ukraine is en-route to deliver some more.
Retired Network Engineer, Steve Bratherton from Haslington, is part way through the trip across Europe to the Ukraine border in response to the conflict in Ukraine.
After taking 40 burns treatment kits to the Polish/Ukraine border to help the injured out of his own pocket and costing more than £4000, Steve feels he is duty bound to do it again.
Steve said on his Facebook page today: "It's been a nightmare on the motorway. Accidents everywhere and then the Port of Dover was organised chaos with the P&O situation.
"I've now arrived at my hotel in Bruges, Belgium."
Steve told Nub News before he left:"I'm going again as I feel that it is my duty to help these people, having seen it all first hand. I am staying longer to make a real difference."
Steve is severely disabled following a hit and run incident three years ago. He lost the use of his left leg and walks with a quad stick, but that doesn't stop him driving for those in need.
Steve posted on social media: "I am taking Rescue Medical Kits to the value of £3200, if anyone would like to contribute please take a look at the Go Fund Me link.
"I will be staying out there for two weeks to help transfer refugees to different centres in Poland."
The 64-year-old is encouraging everyone to share and get behind his Go Fund Me page.
Steve has set up a Go Fund here. to help fund his mercy mission.
