Two new units at Leighton Hospital are helping to reduce unnecessary admissions.

The Surgical Ambulatory Care Unit and Planned Intervention Unit have been tailored to patients' needs and to reduce admissions to inpatient beds, so easing pressures on surgical wards and the emergency department.

The Surgical Ambulatory Care Unit provides rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment on the same day for patients.

It features 12 recliner chairs, one treatment room and two assessment rooms, providing patients with a dedicated and comfortable space.

While the Planned Intervention Unit provides a range of interventions, transfusion and treatments as part of a day service with a capacity for 10 patients. It is open from 8am to 6:30pm from Monday to Friday.

Surgical Matron Helen Williamson said: "We have already received positive feedback from patients about how comfortable, spacious and light the new area is, improving their experience of coming to the hospital."

Oliver Bennet, the chief operating officer at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Leighton, said: "The new facility is part of our ongoing commitment to provide our patients and staff with outstanding facilities for providing the best experience and care for patients."
