At around 7am yesterday (Monday) officers executed a warrant at an address in nearby Knutsford.

A number of unknown substances were found inside the property in the Longridge area and a decision was taken to put a 100-metre cordon in place as a precautionary measure.

A police spokesperson said: "Fire, ambulance, and the EOD were called to the scene and around 110 homes were evacuated while officers established the nature of the substances.

"Following assessment, it was confirmed that it was safe for residents to return to their homes at around 4.50pm.

"Six people were arrested at the address, and they all remain in custody at this time.

"The five men, aged 23, 24, 24, 29 and 58, along with a 22-year-old woman, were all arrested on suspicion of production of a controlled substance."

Detective Inspector John O'Driscoll, of Eastern CID, said: "I understand the disruption caused by this incident and I would like to thank residents for their patience and support.

"Officers will remain in attendance in the area to provide reassurance and I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer."
