Cheshire police are warning people to be aware of the risks of open water swimming after police recovered the body of a South Cheshire teenager from a lake.

The body of the 17-year-old teenager, named locally as David-Junior Tita, from Crewe, was recovered by police from Pickmere Lake near Northwich.

Cheshire Police were called to the lake at around 4.50pm on Tuesday 26 May, following reports of a missing 17-year-old boy who was last seen in the water.

Emergency services, including the police helicopter, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and specialist underwater search teams, carried out extensive searches of the area.

Police later confirmed a body had been recovered from the lake, with his death not being treated as suspicious.

They have urged people visiting Pickmere Lake to park responsibly and be aware of the risks associated with open water swimming.

Chief Inspector, Jamie Lewis, said: "This was a young boy who had his entire life ahead of him.

"At what is an incredibly difficult time, our thoughts remain with the boy's family, friends and everyone who knew him."

The RNLI website has some excellent advice on how to prepare for an open water swim. I would advise everyone to read it as it could just as easily protect you if you fall in accidentally
