A rainbow of colour shone brightly as Sandbach LGBTQ members held the town's first Pride Walk and Pink Picnic.

Around 40 people joined the event held in Sandbach Park to get members together and enjoy the weather and surroundings.

Sandbach LGBTQ was set up in March this year and the group is planning a major Pride event in Sandbach next year.

The event took place just a week before the anniversary of The Stonewall Riots 52 years ago which started the LGBTQ liberation movement.

This month is Pride month in recognition of the riots which began on 28th June in 1969 on New York's Christopher Street at the Stonewall Inn.

Sandbach LGBTQ Founder Michelle Johnson said: "The most important thing for me that Pride highlights is that you are not alone, you are supported by allies from all walks of life.

"Isolation is rife, felt all too much in rural communities and this has been much worse during the Covid pandemic."
