Record breaking numbers of students achieve grade 8s and 9s in their GCSE results

A Sandbach school is celebrating today (Thursday) after record number of students achieve top grades in their GCSEs and vocation qualifications.

Students at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form college obtained 153 grade 9s and 38 Level 2 Distinction (L2D) stars and many students performed 'exceptionally well' securing grade 6 or higher for over half the cohort.

This included: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Religious Studies, German, Textiles, Product Design, Photography. Creative iMedia, Enterprise and Child Development had over half the students obtaining a Level 2 Merit or higher.

Seventy-seven per cent of students achieved five or more passes including English and Maths.

A spokesperson said: "This shows an amazing set of results across the full cohort, whether securing level 9s or level 4s ensuring all students from all backgrounds and of all abilities can have a wealth of opportunities going forward.

"One of our students, Sophie H-B, has received a recognition from the exam board as one of the highest performing students nationally in enterprise.

"Individually there are lots of students to celebrate and some examples are Sophie K who achieved a magnificent 9 grade 9 GCSEs. Madeleine and Nelly obtained 8 grade 9s. We also have six other students obtaining all grade 9s and 8s, or L2D* in vocational subjects.

"Lots of students enrolled into our sixth form today including many students who will be joining us for the first time in September onto our A level, Vocational or sports courses.

"Staff and members of our Careers team were on hand to guide and support students on their next steps. As well as students deciding to start post 16 courses, we are also thrilled for those students embarking on Apprenticeships."

Headteacher Ellen Walton said: 'This year group are a lovely year group and have been for the fiveyears they have been with us. I am not at all surprised by how brilliant these results are. Record breaking results for an unforgettable year group.'
