Motorists are breathing a sign of relief after roadworks holding them up on a major Sandbach road appear to have finished early.

Temporary traffic lights and cones have now gone on Middlewich Road near the Aldi and McDonald's junction allowing, traffic to flow freely in and out of town.

A spokesperson from Cheshire East Council's Highways said the work, which started on Monday (July 8th) was due to be finished by tomorrow (July 12th) but it appears to have finished early.

Chapel Street was also closed while the work was carried out.
