An amateur actress who stepped into the shoes of her great grandmother in a play based on a book written by her late father is now looking forward to the sequel.

Sandbach-based Saxon Players staged "Hannah's Left Hook" at the town's Masonic Hall for three nights from March 31st - April 2nd.

Now the amateur dramatic company has revealed it's doing a follow-up to the successful production – "Hannah the Hammer".

And Jo Sutton from Sandbach who played Hannah and whose late father, Brian Mckeown, wrote the book couldn't be more delighted.

She said: ""We've only covered half of the book so there was always potential to the follow-up and a second play. It's great news," says Jo.

Jo's father used memories from his own childhood in Birkenhead to tell his grandmother's story which shows the hardships of life at that time for many.

Through countless scrubbing of a church floor which she cleaned she developed a "devastating" left hook, which the book and play is based on.

The colourful and strong woman championed the rights of the poor and was renowned as a local class legend.

Jo's father, who sadly died from COVID, loved history and spent five years writing the book – his second.

Now Sandbach is set to see the second part of the book brought to the stage in 2023 which will bring to life the experiences in the North West many decades ago based on the novel "Hannah's Left Hook".
