Sandbach artist and designer Jon Tatham has a new exhibition of work inspired by the Spode museum archive.

SPODESPIRATION is an exhibition of mixed media, collage and designer artworks inspired by Spode and The Potteries.

The famous blue and white colours of the iconic brand feature in the exhibition which runs until June 29th in Stoke-on-Trent.

Jon, from Elgan Crescent, is also a musician and in his earlier days, visited Stoke-on-Trent many times with the band he played with.

Now the drummer and artist has put his stamp on the city with his artwork which includes a wave image complete with broken bits of blue and white Spode pottery.

A keen surfer in the past and runner, Jon has mixed his love of art with the history of Stoke-on-Trent in the exhibition which features 30 pieces of his artwork.

The exhibition features abstract portraits of some of the Spode employees alongside other subjects.

"We moved to Sandbach in 2005 from Bristol so I am near to Stoke-on-Trent.The exhibition features work based on the people and designs of the city," said Jon.

"The photographic archive of the workers of Spode seemed a natural and integral starting point, hence the creation of the 'People of Spode' portrait series.

"It cannot be understated however, the impact that one photo of F. Griffiths (whom I have become to refer to as 'The Duke') has had in steering the Spodespiration project as a whole and my Ducas/Duka artworks in particular.

"I've taken some quite traditional views and given them a new spin."

The exhibition runs until June 29 at the Spode Museum, Elenora Street, Stoke ST4 1QD. The museum is open from Wednesday until Sunday 10 am - 4pm. Admission is free.
