While most of us are thinking about 'dry January' and giving up alcohol or losing a few pounds, local artist James Anderson Rogers is taking on a different challenge.

The talented Sandbch artist is painting a different image each day of the town and area, come rain or shine, in plein air – outside, with his 'Strada Easel Challenge'.

And his work, which has been spotted by various people in various locations in and around Sandbach, has been so well received that Mayor, Councillor Ann Nevitt, is going to arrange an exhibition.

"He's such a talented man. The painting he did in Sandbach Cemetery of the War Memorial is fantastic. We're going to stage an exhibition of his work."

James' painting of the war memorial in Sandbach Cemetery on a "very gloomy day" formed day 20 of his amazing challenge.

He has used a variety of locations from Chapel Street to Bold Street, Sandbach Park to Crewe Road in Winterley/Haslington looking down Kents Green Lane.

James has found that his art work helps to keep him healthy in mind and body. He was diagnosed with dyspraxia as a youngster and in later life found out he had Type 1 Diabetes.

And although the talented artist, who lives in Ettiley Heath, sometimes leaves the area to go to the Peak District to get insipiration, he has a fondness for local scenes.

A while back, James, who specialises in oil painting and graphite drawing captured the annual Wakes fair in Sandbach, as can be seen in the painting below.

"I love getting outside and painting what's out there. I sometimes paint in the rain and snow," he told Nub News previously.

"I paint locally but I love going to the Peak District and painting there. I park up, get my easel and paints out and start painting."

James studied natural history illustration at college in Bournemouth but apart from that, is self-taught.

"I paint standing up as it's easier for me. I find painting very relaxing," says James, who prefers to work in oil.

"Water colours are more difficult and I have used acrylics."

The studio of his Ettiley Heath home in Elton Road remains his gallery showcase along but his work can also be seen on his Facebook page here and his Instagram account here , along with the 'Strada Easel Challenge'.
