Coronavirus cases are on a slight rise in our town, as we pass one month since 'Freedom Day'.

No region in Sandbach saw a decline in cases, but it has not come with an increase in hospitalisations.

Sandbach follows a national trend of gradually increasing cases, however, as vaccination has opened to sixteen and seventeen year olds, the rise will be counteracted by more people who could catch the virus being jabbed.

At least 83% of all Sandbach areas have had one dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

The following figures for our town are listed below for the seven days up to August 17.

In brackets, are the change in case numbers from the week prior.

Sandbach Ettiley Heath & Wheelock

38 (+4)

Sandbach Heath

20 (+5)

Sandbach North

19 (+3)

Scholar Green, Rode Heath & Brereton

30 (+11)

There are 22 more cases in the aforementioned Sandbach areas, when compared to the preceding seven day period.

Nationally, while cases have been on the rise since August 2 2021, where there were 18,914 cases, Sunday's figures suggested there were 25,679 new cases on August 22.

This pales in comparison to the peaks of 61,757 new cases on January 8 2021, and a more recent high of 38,804 new cases nationally on July 21 2021.

National data suggests it is mostly unvaccinated young people getting sick.

But Sandbach: why do you think cases are on the rise?
