A Sandbach couple who open up their winter wonderland garden every year for the mental health charity, Mind, have raised a bumper £1,285.15.

Caroline and Steve Baguley have been putting on a winter wonderland show of lights and Christmas decorations in their Elworth Road front garden for the charity for the last five years.

This year, they kicked it off with a cake sale at Caroline's gym, Train, in Station Road in November before turning on their light display on November 30th which went on between 5 pm and 9 pm every night until December 28th.

Caroline, a grandmother of four, said she and her husband are delighted with the total this year.

"We'd like to thank everyone who supported us to raise this terrific amount."

To date, excluding this year's total, the couple have raised more than £5,000 for Mind and their JustGiving page here to make donations is still open.

Caroline said previously: "We get people coming from all over. We had one little girl who wrote us a letter saying she was from Scotland and visiting family in Sandbach and how wonderful the lights are. She said she couldn't wait to come back.

"Mind is such an important charity. Mental health affects so many people of any age or background. No one knows when it's going to hit them.

"We've had all sorts of things to raise money for Mind including an afternoon tea at St Peter's Church hall in Elworth. We'll keep doing this.

"As soon as Christmas is over, the decorations go back into the loft. We've got so many now we have to store some at our daughter's house."

Visitors going to see the decorations are encouraged to put donations into a letter box at the front of the couple's house which has real meaning to their lives. Steve is a former HGV driver for Royal Mail at Warrington.

"We found it in an antique shop in Yorkshire," said Steve. "When I retired, I wanted a post box outside so we bought this one. It's from a rural village in Yorkshire."
