A Sandbach resident has helped to raise almost £12,000 for charity as part of a walking challenge.

Local man Paul Molley was among the team of intrepid hikers who took on the Staffordshire Three Peaks as part of a fundraising effort for the Masonic Charitable Foundation.

The foundation donates over £45 million every year to worthy causes including many in Cheshire.

Paul was among a team of nine walkers, each carrying at least 10 kilos of equipment. They set off at 7am on 27 July, and finished the 18-mile route at 2pm the same day.

The Staffordshire Three Peaks comprises Oliver Hill (509 metres), Cheeks Hill (518 metres) and The Roaches (501 metres). Since all of the peaks are at least 500 metres above sea level, they are technically classed as mountains.

Paul's trip was a success, with 'perfect' weather. It finished with a bite to eat at the Reform Inn.

And although the trip is complete, the fundraiser will remain open for donations until 14 September. You can donate using the QR code below.

David Thomas, Deputy Head of Staffordshire Freemasons, said "I have been blown away with the camaraderie and spirit of the team taking part.

"Their commitment to the training and background logistics to ensure the success of the event is very humbling, especially when we all have our own personal vocations and family to consider. Freemasonry develops the spirit of integrity, friendship, respect, and service – all of which has been on full display during this challenge.

"I am very proud of the team as a whole and so too are all the other freemasons across the country who have followed our progress and donated to the target"

John Lockley, head of the Freemasons in Staffordshire, was present to welcome the team home.

He said: "I am super proud of all the Freemasons in Staffordshire. They have all put their minds, and in many cases their bodies, into making the Festival a huge success. Today's Challenge Team epitomises all that has been done to ensure the Masonic Charitable Foundation may continue to do their great work supporting those less fortunate."

It comes not long after Paul raised over £1,250 for Motor Neurone Disease as part of another challenge, in which he completed 15,000 steps every day for a month.
