A new mayor and deputy mayor for Sandbach have been appointed at the annual mayor making ceremony.

Sandbach Ettiley Heath and Wheelock councillor, Laura Crane, has been appointed mayor and Councillor Ann Nevitt, a Town Ward councillor, has been appointed her deputy.

Members of Sandbach Town Council voted for the two positions at last night's forty-ninth annual general meeting of Sandbach Town Council.

Cllr Crane, who also represents Sandbach Ettiley Heath and Wheelock on Cheshire East Council, takes over from outgoing mayor, Cllr Kathryn Flavell.

Unfortunately, Cllr Flavell's deputy, Richard Hovey, a long-standing town councillor, lost his seat in this month's local elections and therefore was unable to become mayor.

Cllr Crane thanked the meeting for putting trust in her as the new mayor and she also thanked Cllr Flavell for her hard work during the last year.

"It's been an unusual year with the Queen's Platinum celebrations, then her sad death and then the King Charles III's proclamation and coronation.

It's an honour and privilege to serve as mayor and thank you for putting your trust in me."

Cllr Flavell, who received a certificate of recognition for her work, said she had thoroughly enjoyed her year and passed on her good wishes to the new mayor and deputy mayor.
