Two boys who rescued poppy wreaths taken from Sandbach War Memorial joined the Sandbach Mayor leading today's parade of vehicles through the town.

Mayor, Councillor Kathryn Flavell, asked the two to join her in a top-of-the range Bentley Flying Spur Mulliner (pictured below), especially loaned for the occasion.

And 14-yearold Leon Walker and Arron-Ray Holme (10), who fished the wreaths out of a stream earlier this year, were only too happy to accompany Cllr Flavell in the parade.

Cllr Flavell said: "It's was the final treat for Leon and Arron-Ray in recognition of what they did for the town.

"They both thoroughly enjoyed it and were so excited to see all the gadgets in the car. We're delighted that Bentley loaned it to us for the occasion."

Classic cars and 'Made in Sandbach' trucks took centre stage on the second day of annual event which attracts visitors from far and wide.

Sandbach vintage vehicle lover, Chris Cliff, was the owner of the oldest vehicle on show, a !927 Riley.

The retired railway engineer has three Rileys, ranging from 1927 to 1932 and 1952 and started collecting them in his 20s.

"There's something very special about them," said Chris, who lives in Offley Road. "This one is a special tourer and has curved bodywork.

Chris drives the vehicle all over the north west and has even driven it to Le Mans in France.

But today (Sunday) classic car lovers were able to see the impressive vehicle, only one of just over 30 or so left, nearer to home in Sandbach.

The annual two-day transport festival, which closed at 4 pm yesterday (Sunday), celebrates Sandbach's rich transport heritage.

It also featured two days of live music with Sandbach Music Festival at a specially set-up stage on The Cobbles.
