Sandbach town councillors have agreed to fund livery for the new town crier and get him kitted out for the prestigious role.

A move to release funds to get livery made for the new town crier was given the go-ahead at the meeting of the full council this week.

We reported here how the community-minded Liverpudlian had taken over from outgoing town crier, Dennis Robinson, who has retired from the post after more than 40 years.

The item was discussed at Wednesday's (July 27th) meeting of of the full council when it was decided that an amount of up to £2,000 would be set aside to fund the project, though it was anticipated the project would come in much lower than this.

The meeting heard that various quotes had come in, one was for £1,000, to create the historic costume.

It was proposed, seconded and agreed that the Chief Officer, Mayor and Town Crier would now set the process in motion to get a new livery and bring the item back to the next full council meeting on September 11th.

The livery would be similar to the previous town crier's, Dennis Robinson, pictured here. (Photo: Nub News)

Nub News told here how the new town crier, David Hypson, a community-minded former school governor and a big traditionalist, has taken over from the previous town crier, Dennis Robinson, who has retired.

David served in the Royal Signals and is semi-retired, working at the Royal Liverpool Hospital for part of the week and is looking forward to putting the town on the map and celebrating its history.
