A Sandbach school is celebrating after one of its students made history today by becoming Britain's youngest snowboarding world champion.

Sixteen-year-old Mia Brookes beat New Zealand's Zoi Sadowski-Synnott to women's slopestyle gold at the Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships in Georgia.

Not only that, Mia, a student at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College also also landed the first Cab 1440 double grab in a women's event to claim Britain's maiden slopestyle gold.

Her school, in Middlewich Road, Sandbach, said they couldn't be prouder of Mia who is a "true inspiration".

"She is such a talented athlete and becoming World Champion at the age of 16 years is extraordinary," said Nicki Oyler, Deputy Headteacher.

"The school community has been on tender hooks all morning, so to see Mia performing the switch cab 1440 to grab Gold was astronomical - we are so proud of everything she has achieved.

"Mia is dedicated to both her lifelong passion of snowboarding but also her studies and it is remarkable that she balances them successfully. "

Sandbach Nub News also wishes Mia, who has been snowboarding since she was 18 months old, all the best.

Last month (January), we told here https://sandbach.nub.news/news/local-news/school-heaps-praise-on-their-trailblazing-silver-medal-winning-student-169015 how Mia had won a silver medal at the first slopestyle event of the year in Laax, Switzerland.
