An eight year old youngster and the Sandbach Town Crier stepped into the spotlight at the town's big lights switch on last night (Saturday).

Elworth Hall Primary School pupil, Luna Finnie, won a competition to press the button at last night's big event. The youngster pressed the magic button to light up the town in all its glory at 5 pm.

And Sandbach's new town crier, David Hypson, made his first public appearance in his smart new livery at the event on The Cobbles.

David Hypson, a community-minded former school governor and a big traditionalist who lives in Sandbach, has taken over from the previous town crier, Dennis Robinson, who has retired as we revealed here

He said: "I'm so pleased to have finally got my costume. It's taken a while but it looks and fits great and I've had some great compliments."

They were joined on stage by local MP Sarah Russell, town mayor Councillor Ann Nevitt and her deputy John Arnold, Councillor Nicola Cook, Cllr Laura Crane and a host of others.

The town was packed with crowds who enjoyed the Sandbach Town Council run event which from from 2 pm until 6 pm hosted by Silk FM and included performances by Foden's Band.

There was a fire breather, Christmas stilt walkers, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and a fairground ride for children.

Christmas has definitely begun in Sandbach! Happy Christmas from Sandbach Nub News.
