Badges of honour: stroke survivor volunteers recognised as charity receives King's Award
By Deborah Bowyer 28th Apr 2026
Volunteers from two local branches of a group for stroke survivors have been presented with individual pin badges as part of the charity's Kings Award for Voluntary Services (KAVS) - equivalent to an MBE.
Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Lady Redmond, presented the King's Award for Voluntary Services to the Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Group at Crewe Municipal Buildings attended by dignitaries and members of the charity.

Volunteers from the Sandbach group, which meets at Sandbach Rugby Club, and the Holmes Chapel group, which meets at Holmes Chapel Methodist Church, were among those presented with badges.
Lord Lieutenant, Lady Redmond, gave her 'warmest congratulations' as she presented awards, saying volunteers give their time 'day in day out' to the groups, making a real impact on the survival and recovery of stroke victims.
Each of the groups were then called up to receive a commemorative enamel pin badge from the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff.
Founder, Liz Bedson, said: "Thank you to everyone for all your support, love and belief in my vision and dreams over the past eight years. Here's to the future of Stroke Survivors Speech & Language Support Group."
