Teenage Taylor Swift fan raffles box of merchandise to fund Borneo conservation trip
A massive 13-year-old Taylor Swift fan is raffling a box of merchandise to raise money for a month-long conservation trip.
Melody Freeman has launched a fundraising campaign to raise £5,000 to fund a trip to Borneo next year.
And a box of Taylor Swift items including posters, a pin badge and a tote bag, are part of the teenager's prize for one lucky Swifitie.
The box was part of a VIP ticket bought for Melody's birthday last year which she has decided to help raffle to raise funds for her trip.
The money raised will help fund the trip which was inspired by Melody seeing Sir David Attenborough speak at Glastonbury a while back.
"I love Taylor Swift's music," said Melody, a student at Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College who wants to follow a career in performing arts.
"I've got many of her albums. I just love her and thought a fan who maybe wasn't lucky enough to get a ticket to see her would appreciate the box.
"I was lucky enough to see Sir David Attenborough speak at Glastonbury and he inspired me to think about conservation."
Melody and her mum Amy are going to see Taylor Swift on her Eras tour at Anfield in Liverpool on Friday night (June 14th).
Fans can purchase a strip of tickets to win the merchandise box for £2 here and raffle ticket numbers will be emailed. The strips contain five tickets but fans can also buy just one ticket for 50p.
But the Taylor Swift box isn't the only thing Melody, from Bridge Farm Court in Moston, is offering fellow Swiftie fans.
The enterprising youngster has made Taylor Swift badges to sell for her trip alongside badges for Father's Day this weekend.
"I'm just trying to raise as much as I can for my Borneo trip," said Melody who has named her fundraising campaign 'Borneo bound'.
Melody's parents are proud of her fundraising efforts. Mum Amy said: "We're proud she's brave enough to do the expedition and to raise money to fund it. She's worked so hard on this."
During the four-week trip in July next year, Melody will spend a week teaching English, a week with orangutans, a week helping out on a school project and another week clearing litter from the ocean.
"It's important we understand the impact of what we're doing now on the world," said Melody who would like to pursue a career in performing arts.
But Melody, who has organised an array of other fundraising ideas for the trip including selling clothing on Vinted, is no stranger to challenges.
A keen rock climber, she goes to Audley Climbing Centre every week as well as Stagecoach Nantwich performing arts school every weekend.
