Firefighters were called to a five vehicle accident on the M6 near Sandbach at the weekend.

And Sandbach town centre became gridlocked as traffic tried to find a new route past the accident.

Firefighters from Crewe and Kidsgrove were called to the accident  southbound between junctions at 16 and 17 at 10.19 am on Saturday.

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Services spokesperson said: "A road traffic collision involving five vehicles required firefighters to attend and get three people out of two of the vehicles.

"The crews used hydraulic rams and hand tools to free the casualties. A long board was required to get one casualty safely to the care of paramedics."
