It's the finals tonight (Wednesday) of the Great British Sewing Bee but Sandbach has its own version of talented seamstresses stitching their future.

The great art of sewing has made a comeback thanks to the popular TV programme which will see finalists making an iconic outfit before one is crowned the series winner.

But sewing is making a comeback in Sandbach as well - partly thanks to sewing teacher, Julie Pearce, who is passing on her clever skills.

The talented seamstress, who wasn't formally trained, learnt the tricks of her trade from her mum who taught her how to make dolls clothes.

Now the Sandbach-based craftswoman is teaching others how to sew and master the art of the sewing at Sandbach Art Room.

Julie from Cooksmere Lane in Sandbach holds weekly classes at the popular location in Bradwall Road.

She said: "I was passing the art room one day when I noticed they were looking for volunteers.

"I love sewing and have sewn all my life. It's such a valuable skill to have and never goes out of fashion.

"There's so much you can make and do from more complex things to say just stitching a hem up if it has come down on a skirt or dress."

Sandbach Nub News was lucky enough to sit in on one of Julie's popular intermediate sewing classes at Sandbach Art Room.

Each sewer was helped with the project they were working on, whether it be making a pair of shorts, altering a dress to make it smaller or making a jumpsuit.

Margaret Kay (70), from Elworth always loved sewing at school and decided to harness new skills at Julie's classes.

Another student, May Moulton from Haslington, says she has also learnt new skills and enjoys learning from other students in the class.

But it's not just females who are enjoying Julie's classes – Ryan Atherton (23) from Sandbach, has also tried his hand at sewing and is enjoying learning new sewing techniques.

More details about Julie's sewing classes are available from Sandbach Art Room website at https://www.sandbachartroom.co.uk/current-classes.html
