Waterways charity called in to secure boat on canal in Sandbach
By Deborah Bowyer 19th May 2026
Waterways charity, the Canal & River Trust, was called in to secure a boat found adrift without its owner.
A passerby spotted a canal boat drifting at Ettiley Heath between the railway bridge and the road over the canal before the Canal & River Trust were alerted.
Paul Reynolds, area operations manager at waterways charity Canal & River Trust, said: "Our team were out yesterday afternoon (Monday) to secure the boat and safely moor it up again on behalf of the owner.
"There are thousands of boats on the canal network and instances of them coming free of their moorings, although not too common, can happen from time to time.
"Hopefully, it was just a hiccup, and everyone is OK and that the boat wasn't untied from its mooring deliberately."
