Work has started for a new bowling alley on a Crewe town centre leisure park - following the approval of a premises license this summer.

Back in July, Cheshire East Council granted Tenpin Ltd its premises license for Phoenix Leisure Park, Dunwoody Way.

Workers have been busy developing the unit formerly occupied by MFA Bowl (Ryan Parker).

The new Crewe bowling alley will have an on-site restaurant, bar and arcade.

Tenpin will open its Crewe centre to the public from 10am to 1am the following morning - Monday to Thursday.

Across the weekend, the bowling centre will to open from 10am to 2am the following morning.

The sale of alcohol and late night refreshments will end one hour before every close.

Crewe maintained a bowling alley on the Phoenix Leisure Park from 2005 to 2018 - with MFA Bowl closing over four years ago.

The majority of local residents are looking forward to visiting Tenpin after a four-year absence of bowling from Crewe.

Mrs Leanne Jennings who lives in the town, told Nub News: "I hope it happens, it was a great social hub before we went regularly for team building events for work.

"I would love to not have to travel to Stoke to take my little boy when he's bigger. I hope it goes ahead."

Mr Jon Daniels from Crewe, hoped Tenpin would be better than MFA Bowl, adding: "The bowling alley was a great thing to have in Crewe, but it was just left in charge of poorly trained staff or understaffed."

Tenpin is one of the largest bowling brands in the UK - currently operating 46 bowling centres across the UK.

The nearest Tenpin bowling centres to Crewe are Tenpin Stoke (15 miles), Tenpin Wrexham (26 miles) and Tenpin Cheshire Oaks (28 miles).

Currently, Lymelight Lanes, Newcastle-under-Lyme, is the closet bowling alley to Crewe - 14 miles away.
