The Military Arms in Sandbach has a busy weekend ahead but on Monday and Tuesday next week, it's closing its doors for another part of its revamp.

Last year, the first part of the revamp of the Congleton Road pub took place with new signage, painting and planting improvements in the garden.

Earlier this year, resin flooring was added to the front of the pub and now new counter tops are being added to the bar and hand pulls are being replaced.

Pub manager, Emma Bateman said: "We're doing the renovations in small stages as and when we can.

"We're continuously making improvements and sadly the bar renovations mean we have to close for a couple of days.

"But we'll be back open again straight away and ready to carry on and as with everything we do, we try and use local tradesmen."

But before the pub closes for two days on August 15th and August 16th a big party is taking place on Saturday afternoon to celebrate pub manager, Emma Bateman's skydive.

Emma is doing a charity skydive to raise money for The Joshua Tree, supporting families affected by childhood cancers.

There will be live music at 5pm from Kelley Tigerheart and a pop up bar hosted by Whitley Neill.

The Military Arms has an interesting history. The oak leaf symbol was used by the Cheshire Regiment for 72 years until 2007 when it adopted the Mercian Regiment Badge.

According to history, George II was saved by members of the Cheshire Regiment at the Battle of Dettigen.

As a thank you, he picked up a sprig of oak from a tree he was sheltering under and gave it to the soldiers. Oak leaves were then worn in the presence of royalty by the Cheshire Regiment.

The oak leaf and acorn logo are used throughout the pub, which has undergone a considerable amount of changes since lock down.
