Sandbach's vast array of pubs have made it into 'The Great British Pub Crawl' - a couple's bid to visit as many of the UK's pubs as possible.

Nottinghamshire's Dale and Holly Harvey visited the town on Saturday (April 20th) - the first day of Sandbach Transport Festival.

They visited 15 pubs in the town, saying Sandbach is "up there alongside the very best" with "some amazing ale houses".

They also said there are some top-notch craft beer offerings, plenty of places for a good old date night and some great food and excellent cocktail bar offerings.

"The transport and music festivals were fantastic and obviously brought a lot of people out into the town! All-in-all it's a super little town and we will definitely be heading back."

They said: "We picked Sandbach on the day of the town's 'Transport Festival' so the place was a real hive of activity and buzzing from the moment we rolled in at around 2.30pm. We headed straight for our first stop off, which was 'The Wheatsheaf' and settled into make our plan of attack.

"The Wheatsheaf couldn't have been a better place for us to start off our day as it's hugely impressive both inside and out. The décor is superb and feels grand and impressive from the second you step inside the door."

The couple then went on to 'Raffaele' across the road saying it was "definitely worth a stop off".

"We opted to make the most of the sun shining down and sat out on the little front terrace space with a lovely view of the town. Really friendly staff, good wine choices and a super little menu."

Their next stop was 'The Beer Emporium'. "I knew from the get-go that I was going to love everything about this one... from the beer choices to the fact that they also brew their own gin ..." said Dale.

"Thirty yards down the road is 'Welles & Cross' which is an unassuming looking little corner pub from the outside but cross its threshold, you'll instantly appreciate what they're going for here.

"Having spent some real money to bring this former rundown old pub they have well and truly brought it into the 21st century and placed it on the map."

"Two hundred yards up the road and opposite the site of the Transport Festival is 'The Military Arms' which was absolutely heaving inside... a great bit of live music in full swing early on and some street food available outside by the outside bar.

"The 'Swan & Chequers' was up next, which is a large pub back down the road on the roundabout. With a good size beer garden, regular Karaoke, open Mic and quiz nights, this dog friendly pub offers a bit of everything... Decent sized garden space, friendly staff and good vibe.

"A hundred yards along the road into the main town centre part then and to 'The Lion' which looks like it should be a Craft Union pub but we couldn't see any branding... it's got screens galore for all the sport, great cheap drinks deals and a reasonably bog-standard selection on its taps. No hand pulls on but a decent mix of punters in the place and a fun pub style atmosphere...

"On the opposite side of the road is the former Black Bear pub... now calling itself DV8. This 500+ year old building is a sight to behold in itself, with some stunning original beams and very low ceilings....

"Out on the square, the music festival was in full swing so we headed around to 'The Market Tavern' where they were swamped almost three deep at the bar with people waiting so it was tough to get a true feel for the place but it looks to be a nice old market square type pub.

"Two doors further down around the square is 'Bar Six' which is where I found my first Vault City Sour of the day!! A super craft beer selection is this cute and cosy little bar on the corner of the square.

"Around the back of Bar Six is the Joules Pub called 'The Lower Chequer' which encapsulates everything that is great about Joules pubs. From their own super offerings on the hand pulls and the taps to the friendly and appealing welcome, this one is just beautiful...

"Our next stop was to 'The Cobbles' and this is another phenomenal craft beer house with killer choices from the cans and a belting tap selection...

"Our next stop was 'Cubar' - a Latino style bar/restaurant with funky town vibes for days. Great atmosphere in here though and great bar.

"The final stop of the night took us down to 'The Old Hall' ... An historic piece of Sandbach history and a pub that hasn't tried to compromise its beauty with any kind of unnecessary modernisation of the place.

"There is a great selection of ales on the bar and a lovely way about the pub! If you like a bit of history in your pubs and a true feeling of grandeur, I urge you to go and give this one a visit."
