A private health university with a new campus in Crewe has been fined for filing its accounts over two years late - missing multiple deadlines to publish them.
The University of Buckingham, with a health science campus off Crewe Green Road, has been fined £37,231 for missing deadlines to publish its audited accounts.
It is the first university to be fined by the Office for Students (OfS) - missing its initial deadline of May 2020.
The University of Buckingham requested and missed subsequent extensions to file its audits - finally submitting them over two years late in June 2022.
OfS' £37,231 fine is equivalent to 0.1% of the university's qualifying income - mainly from student tuition fees.
Buckingham has blamed the audit delays on the opening of its new Crewe campus and COVID-19 lockdowns.
The Apollo Buckingham Health Science Campus (ABHSC) opened in September 2019 - at the site of Crewe's former MMU campus.
This campus is majority owned by The University of Buckingham and Apollo.
The partnership with the Indian health care provider was part of ambitious plans to open a medical school in Crewe - offering health science courses.
Student uptake for January 2023 is up 25% on last year's figures.
Buckingham's accounts for 2020 and 2021 are also overdue.
The university has confirmed it is in a solid financial position and says will file its accounts soon.
