A young amateur female boxer from Sandbach is flying out to Sweden today (Thursday) to represent the North West region.

Kelsey Morrey, who does shifts at The Military Arms in Congleton Road, is competing in her first international boxing event.

The 18-year-old, a student at Cheshire College South & West in Crewe, is a member of Holmes Chapel Boxing Club and will do three fights in three days.

Kelsey from Platt Avenue is studying sports fitness and personal training at college.

She said: "It's a big opportunity to compete internationally and I'm really looking forward to it.

"I'd also like to thank everyone who's helping me and the Military Arms for their support. I'm so grateful for everyone's help."

The Military Arms has launched a fundraising pot to help Kelsey.

Pub manager, Emma Bateman said previously: "We're proud to be supporting and sponsoring Kelsey with her upcoming trip to Sweden, where she will be representing the region and competing internationally.

"Kelsey is a valued member of our team and we are incredibly proud that she is from Sandbach, representing both herself, females, our business and the local community on an international stage.

"We are supporting her not only because of her impressive achievements in the ring, but also because of the positive impact she has beyond it."

Since December 2023, Kelsey has competed in 14 fights with eight wins, earning two North West Champion titles and two Women's Winter Box Cup titles.

Alongside her own boxing career, she coaches people living with Parkinson's and runs a women's boxing class — all held at her boxing club in Holmes Chapel - demonstrating dedication, resilience and a genuine commitment to giving back.

Emma added: "She is a true ambassador for the sport, making a real impact both in and out of the ring. We should shout more about the positive impacts young adults are making in our community. Good luck Kelsey!"

Good luck Kelsey!
