HASLINGTON Support Group has announced the appointment of a new events manager.

Haslington-based Jess Slater, a nurse, mother-of-two and former wedding planner, takes over the role of events manager/press and PR liaison officer from Helen Mollart, who will continue to act as the group's treasurer and used stamp appeal coordinator.

The community group was recently presented with the High Sheriff of Cheshire's award for Community Service for its work during the pandemic, including donating food parcels and ferrying elderly people to their medical appointments and picking up prescriptions.

Jess said: "The group has been active throughout the pandemic, arranging fund-raising events such as Street Safaris, Poppy Trails, a Wizard of Oz trail, a World War One Exhibition and craft fairs.

"We have helped residents throughout the civic parish of Haslington with donations of food parcels, prescription delivery and collection, shopping, lifts to hospital, dental and optician appointments, in fact anything and everything we have been asked to do.

"We are grateful for the assistance and support of many local businesses and individuals, plus of course our wonderful volunteers.

"Next year we are planning more diverse events, the [Covid] situation permitting of course, to support our local community."
