A Menopause Café, aimed at breaking down the taboo around menopause and increasing awareness of the impact of the menopause on those experiencing it is being launched in Sandbach.

Macclesfield Menopause Café was launched in 2021 but Sandbach is to have its very own Menopause cafe - where women can go along and discuss issues and seek help for what can be one of the most difficult periods in their life.

Sandbach Menopause Cafe launches on Thursday (September 26th) at Union Street Community Centre in Union Street and takes place from 7 pm until 8.30 pm and then the fourth Thursday of each month.

Sandbach Menopause Cafe is being organised by Natalie Coomer and Lisa Moss, both local women who are passionate about removing the stigma around menopause and creating a safe space for everyone to talk.

Natalie (39) knows first-hand the impact of the menopause having gone through it in her 30s when she had a hysterectomy. A volunteer with Motherwell she enjoys helping women through their period of their life.

"People can come along and just listen, or join in on the discussions, hopefully leaving with a clearer sense of the impact of the menopause on those who are experiencing it, alongside their families, friends and colleagues.

"Women are living longer, living half their life without their hormones. There are more women with dementia and other issues.

"We shouldn't suffer in silence. There is help out there and we can signpost women on to the right path and what help is available.

"Women have had children, held down jobs and looked after their family. It can be a difficult time. The menopause cafe is a place to talk to other women about issues caused by the menopause."

Lisa Moss, attempted to battle through menopause as naturally as possible for three years, following failed attempts at HRT.

She told how previously she felt miserable whilst commencing a new role in local authority - the brain fog, fatigue and anxiety were too much to bear.

Following her personal epiphany that she no longer wanted to be invisible; with specialist support she successfully started HRT and was delighted when her husband announced that "the old Lisa was back!". It's all about knowing your options!

And now along with friend Natalie Coomer they are hoping to help as many women in Sandbach as possible.

"You can come for all or part of the sessions," said Natalie. "Plus Dane has very kindly offered us the community space which is a private place."

For anyone who cannot make Thursday, there is also a menopause event held once a month on Sundays at Hope Street Social in Sandbach (details below).
